Art Prize

Sometime towards the end of September till the middle of October, one of the most exciting things happens here in Grand Rapids. Something called ARTPRIZE!

In case you are wondering what ArtPrize is:

ArtPrize® is a radically open, independently organized international art competition and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

For 19 days, three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, become an open playing field where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown, and it’s all free and open to the public.

It’s unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and the public alike.

It is one of the most beautiful and exciting things to see in downtown Grand Rapids. Even if you're not big on art, it's just fun to feast your eyes!

I went last year and promised myself I'd go again this year, and I did--twice even! The first time was to look around, and the second time was to get this picture.

Ignore my awkward stance; I wasn't sure what I was doing. #WhatLiftsYou?

So I'm going to leave some pictures here for you to see what it's like. Enjoy! (Tap to view more).
