What is a school without its friendly competition?
Calvin loves having friendly competitions across campus. One of those friendly competitions is Chaos Night!
Chaos Night is a competition between the seven dorms. Each dorm has a chance to showcase their pride. One of the ways to show pride is by cheering at the top of our lungs! The friendly competition of Chaos Night has different obstacle courses that each dorm participates in with the volunteer tributes. It is all about fun and the enjoyment of which team can give their best effort in showing their dorm pride!
My dorm pride is and will always be for my home here at Calvin: KHvR!
Gearing up for Chaos Night!
The goal for most people at Chaos Night is to win, but for some us, like myself, it is about having fun! Chaos Night was Friday night (September 11, 2015), but beforehand KHvR (and other dorms) had a chance to get ready to win Chaos Night.
Each Chaos Night has different obstacles. One of the constant events is Tug of War. Before Tug of War during Chaos Night, we have a chance to get a BYE in order for us to not participate in the first round of Tug of War. Calvin has us compete for that advantage through the mattress game.
Mattress Game: A person is on top of a mattress. There are people lined up with their legs together. The people lined up and sitting down have to pull the person on the mattress down the line as fast they can. The goal of the game is to get the mattress back and forth as fast they can.
The results of the mattress game: Rooks Vandellen got the bye for Tug of War.
One of my favorite activities with Chaos Night is being able to have fun with my dorm. It gives me a chance as an RA to get to know other residents I would not normally interact with. The Residence Hall Executive Team (RHET) prepares other games and challenges for their specific dorm to enjoy and get ready for CHAOS NIGHT!
Above are some pictures of the residents and I playing games before CHAOS NIGHT!
KHvR prepared many times to do our best during Chaos Night. As we took the challenges ahead of us, we won some of the games and we lost some of the games. However, even with the loss against Shultze-Eldersveld as a whole, I can still say we won because we had fun. I mean walking away with a trophy also means winning right? KHvR won the Cup of Perspective (“awarded to the hall that displays the value of keeping it in perspective — like it’s not the end of the world.”). Everything is about perspective, so I can freely say we won!
In the past two years I've lived in KHvR, I believed this year's Chaos Night has been the best turn out. We had 233 people attend Chaos Night, and many people participated in the games!
As RAs, we were able to wear costumes relating to our dorm theme: Luau. I happened to be a lifeguard. Everyone had an opportunity to dress up with anything that relates to a luau. There are many variations on what a luau looks like, but overall, everyone who participated looked amazing!
We won the CUP of PERSPECTIVE!
