Last week Thursday, a couple of us on Calvin's DC Semester received the following mesage from a mutual friend, Elena (an Elementary Ed Major @ Calvin) :
Hi, D.C. friends! I have a favor to ask you. I'm student teaching in a first grade class right now, and next week they're learning about Washington, D.C. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to send me a quick video of you in front of a D.C. landmark, greeting the class, and saying a few facts about the landmark. The kids I work with live in severe poverty for the most part and have very few connections outside of GR. They'd be bouncing off the walls if they saw people greeting them from the nation's capital, and they'd be so excited to learn about it. It would be SUCH a treat for them. The only thing is that since it is next week, you'd have to get me the video by Monday around 5. If you're interested, please let me know and I'll send you more info. You'll probably get a great thank you present from a bunch of adorable first graders sent to your door.
Two days later......this happened
It was fun to shoot - and it means alot to know that something so trivial to us meant so much to the kids at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in Grand Rapids!
Yesterday, Elena showed our video to her class - they absolutely loved it!
It's the little things, my friends!
