Your phone is much more than a mere mechanism for texting and social media. If used correctly, it can be a powerful tool, especially when you're traveling. From personal experience, I've found these apps to be the most crucial for traveling well around the world.
If you’re going to a Spanish speaking country, you shouldn’t leave the States without downloading this app. This app is absolutely amazing, especially because you don’t need data to use it. This app has gotten me out of numerous binds and has been one of the greatest blessings that my phone offers.
For those of you not visiting a Spanish country, Google Translate does it all. You can download whatever languages you need for your time abroad, and use it with or without data. Just make sure you take the time to download the languages in advanced, as you will not be able to use it otherwise.
Both of these apps are absolutely wonderful for having a map of whatever city you need pre-downloaded on your phone. It’s simply a matter of preference between these two, because both have advantages or disadvantages. Since traveling often involves long distances and times without data, these apps are a great help to figure out where you are and where you need to go.
WhatsApp is basically the go-to messaging app everywhere in the world outside of the U.S. With all the features of iMessage, it’s a great way to text people without having an international texting plan. You will need data for this, but it’s a much better alternative to Facebook messager. Plus, you can call people on WhatsApp free of charge and the connection usually holds up pretty well.
