"Guys, I want a castle." After witnessing my first castle, I finally understand the wise words of Flynn Rider. Reasons every person ought to have a castle:
1. You can keep all the haters out with your alligator-infested moat.
2. You can host raucous balls and not worry about the neighbors calling to complain (otherwise you'd have their head).
3. It's. A. Castle.
We visited the Castillo de Cornatel. It was as magnificent as you can imagine. Sadly, we were only there for a short amount of time and didn't get the chance to hear about the history. However, running around the grounds of such a historically significant place gave me chills (or maybe it was just the wind).
After the castle it was time for lunch. In Spain, lunch is not a mere necessity ... it's a grand spectacle. We sat with bright eyes as plate after plate was laid in front of us. Bread, pasta, soup, meat, cheese, vegetables, spring rolls, ice cream ... the list goes on and on. And every time you think it's the last plate, there are at least five more. Afterwards, you feel beyond bloated and sick, all the while knowing you'd do it all again if you had the chance. The food is natural and fresh. Prepared with such care, it'd be a shame to let any of it go to waste. Gotta take what you get, stomach-ache and all.
After Las Médulas we returned to the bus to our next (but not last!) visit for the day: Astorga.
