God's Plan: 5 Expectations versus reality

My plate from freshman year ... which I still have, because I'm super sentimental.

My plate from freshman year ... which I still have, because I'm super sentimental.

“Going with the flow” has never really been my thing. I’m the type of girl that has a life binder with tabs. I have more to-do lists than hairs on my head. Most importantly, I always have a plan.

In second grade, my plan was to grow up, go to Princeton University, get a law degree, and become the first woman president (#DanaDrosdick2040?). Pretty ambitious for a second grader, right? Since then, my plans have become slightly more realistic. (Is it too much to ask for a job that pays me to eat cupcakes and read books?) Nonetheless, there has always been some semblance of a plan.

You can only imagine my reaction, then, as my first year unfolded and my plans began to change. There’s no question as to whether or not Calvin College will change your life. It will. It’s how you let it change your life and how you deal with those changes that matters. Looking back now, I’m grateful for the changes and deviations from my original path, because they make me the person I am today. Stay tuned each day as I go through the five fundamental changes that will likely happen (or have already happened) your first year of college.
