While this job is currently occupied, working as the assistant in the office of the president is a job to aspire to in the future. After all, what’s better than getting to know President Le Roy and all the Vice Presidents at Calvin College on a personal level? Maddie Poindexter talks about her job as the assistant and why she believes it's the best job on campus.
I love being able to get to know the VPs of Calvin College and President Le Roy on a more personal basis. I love being able to help with events that Le Roy has at his house and seeing the administrative backing that goes into being a president of a college.
This job is slightly more labor intensive than most on-campus jobs, given the importance of the job. Employees are required to dress in office casual, welcome people into the office, provide coffee and water to those waiting, set up the conference room for meetings and perform daily tasks (such as making invites, printing labels, opening mail, emailing people), among other things. The assistant in the office of the president is expected to be extremely friendly and welcoming, since they are the student face of the president himself.
