Breaking the Bubble: 2. Starbucks On The Beltline

I know what you may be thinking: “Dana, do you honestly expect me to study at Starbucks? How much of a basic white girl do you think I am?” However, before you brush off this option, I urge you to give it a chance. Starbucks is popular for a reason, and it’s not just for the pumpkin spice lattes that everyone jokes about.

There are two main Starbucks to go to in Grand Rapids: the one located in Gaslight Village and the one on East Beltline. Both Starbucks have a cozy atmosphere and a bustle of people streaming in and out. For those of you who like to people watch, the Starbucks on East Beltline is definitely your best bet.

I like the study spot because it's upbeat but also quiet enough to focus and get work done. It's also close to campus, which is nice. It has a busy on-the-go feel, but provides a leisurely hangout space for those who want to sit down and get some work done.” —Meghan Worley (sophomore, literature and Spanish)

If, on the other hand, you’re someone who likes to spread out across lengthy tables while studying, Victoria Johns recommends driving out to Gaslight Village for the quaint Starbucks nestled in this charming town.

“This Starbucks has indoor and outdoor seating. It has long tables, a bar/high top area and some couches. I usually sit inside at the long table. I like sitting there because it allows me to spread out my papers and see everything I'm working with, rather than feeling confined to a tiny table for one.” —Victoria Johns (junior, elementary ed. with history and social studies)

If you’re overwhelmed by the many Starbucks options, Megan recommends either a Café Americano or a Pike’s Place Roast. For those of you who enjoy a cold beverage, go with Victoria’s beverage of choice: Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino.

These Starbucks are located at 2757 East Beltline Avenue Southeast, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 and 2172 Wealthy St SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
