You all know the Calvin Bubble. Maybe you felt it the moment you walked onto campus, or maybe you never noticed it until the day you escaped it and received your diploma. However, it’s there nonetheless. The Calvin Bubble has no physical properties. Rather, it is the eerie feeling that, no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot escape Calvin’s campus.
It starts off fairly harmless. “Come to this week’s Improv show!” Your hallmate yells this to you across the hall. “Hmm,” you think. “I suppose that does sound fun.” The next day you see Student News advertising a lecture with a professor you’ve been dying to meet. “I guess I can go to that too,” you rationalize in your head. However, this cycle continues for days and weeks until you finally realize, four years too late, that you have managed to live in a vibrant and eclectic city this whole time without ever actually stepping into it.
I totally get it. With so much happening on campus, it’s hard to step away from all the fun. However, it's important to have experiences outside of Calvin as well. There will always be certain elements in life that, no matter how hard Calvin tries, it can never accomplish.
In studying off campus, you manage to kill two birds with one stone: adventuring past Calvin’s borders as well as studying for your classes. There is a slight problem, though: if you’re like the majority of Calvin’s campus, you probably don't even know where to go (heck, you don’t even know where the exit from Calvin is!). Never fear, fellow Calvin students. After asking some of Calvin’s best and brightest, I have compiled the five most recommended study spots off the Calvin campus. Tune in the next five days to learn the best places to go to finally break out of the Calvin Bubble.
