The humans on 3rd vR are notoriously creatures of habit. As such, there are certain habits that, each year, members of 3rd vR continue to maintain. While most floors have weekly floor dinners, floor dinner happens every night on 3rd vR. Every day at around 4:50 someone calls down the halls and yells, “Tiiiiiiime forrrrr dinnnnerrrrrrr.” The interested participants congregate in the lobby and make their way down to Knollcrest, like clockwork, to stand in line before the rest of campus gets there.
Typically, a preliminary envoy is sent to stand at the very beginning of line to run and get the 3rd vR table. “Which is the 3rd vR table?” you may ask. The 3rd vR table is the farthest left table in the middle section of Knollcrest. Although we are loving Christians, we are also extremely possessive of our table, and do not know what to do if someone reaches the table before us.
While the table is practical, given that we generally have 15 to 25 people eating dinner at once, it is also nostalgic. Many great memories have been formed at the 3rd vR table, and many new memories will continue to develop. I’ve grown accustomed to the long wooden benches and the view of the rest of the dining hall from my particular spot. Like the lobby, the 3rd vR table is another home to us all.
